Premina Tamang was born on April 12, 2009, in the Nuwakot region of Tandi-01. Premina’s story has served as a reminder of the dedication and the deep effect that community assistance can have on an individual who was born partially blind.
Presently, she lives in Tarkeshwor-5, Kathmandu, where she is supported by Equity Nepal, a non-profit organization committed to enabling the visually impaired. This blog dives into Premina Tamang’s Journey with Equity Nepal, her life, the obstacles she has encountered, and the positive impact that the support of Equity Nepal will have on her future.
Premina is the only child of her parents and was raised in a modest household. Premina and her mother were in Nepal when her father decided to seek employment opportunities in Malaysia in December 2023. Her mother is a housewife.
Premina’s journey is marked by the difficulties she faces because she is partially blind. When she got her first eye exam in December 2023 under Equity Nepal’s support, the prognosis said that there was no immediate treatment that could improve her vision.
Instead, she was told to get regular checkups every six months or a year to make sure that her current vision was stable. When she realized this, Premina needed more than just medical help. She also needed a place where she could grow her dreams even though she couldn’t see.
Acknowledging the natural potential of Premina, Equity Nepal welcomed her into its hostel, equipping her with a setting that encourages development, independence, and learning.
Beyond the provision of physical assistance, the organization’s dedication to empowering the blind also encompasses educational and emotional support. Along with educational support, she has been receiving, hostel care, skilled-based training, and other basic support like every child from the hostel.
As of date on 27th December 2023, Premina is learning braille to study in school.
Equity Nepal’s intervention in Premina’s life is not just a temporary solution but a catalyst for long-term change. Premina’s path to achieving her goals is being eased by the organization’s provision of a safe and encouraging environment.
By providing regular check-ups and continuous support, her path to independence and self-sufficiency will be maintained in a favorable direction.
Premina represents the goal of Equity Nepal to give blind people more power, showing that with the right help, any dream is possible.
